Nav on Art: Southampton

Date:
2003-2004

About:
Back at University, me and three mates decided to have a ‘cultural afternoon’ around Southampton, observing the local public arts dotted around the town. Although we didn’t see all that many, it sparked something in me to track them all down. So, getting a fresh copy of the map from the Tourist Information Centre, Nav and I decided to start our very first joint-venture photography project. Nav on Art was born (its infancy pronounced by celluloid film) and, as the title suggests, we were going to be as audacious as possible.

The Great British Duck Race 2008

Date:
August 2008

About:
Taking to the high-seas of the River Thames, a kilometer section between Molesey Lock to Albany Reach (at Hampton Court) saw tens of thousands of ducks jostle for first place, granting that one lucky duck-raffle buyer £10,000. It’s all in the name of a good cause, but I still didn’t win anything. However, someone won my attention and a photograph with their number on the bottom of a random duck. Get in contact, your prize: a copy of the full-size, original photo file.

London, Fireworks - 1 Jan 2009

Date:
January 2009

About:
Hon and I met up for London’s 2009 New Year celebratory fireworks on the River Thames. Whether because it was bitterly cold or people didn’t feel they had the money to come out to play, but Waterloo Bridge was not as packed as it could have been. The side on view of the London Eye meant that the patterns of the fireworks weren’t apparent, but I’d give space and the lack of jostling for that any day. (I especially like the photograph of the back-lit crowd looking at a nuclear explosion.)

London, Christmas - 21 Dec 2009

Date:
December 2009

About:
It’s coming up to Christmas, most of the stock in the shops have already been discounted heavily, but it’s still fun at the fair. London’s Hyde Park and Leicester Square hosted a rather large funfair-esque display of rides, rollercoasters, ice-skating, and the usual stalls selling hot food, drinks, and Christmas gifts. It’s quite amazing how many people you can fit into a small square mile; Usman and I were just two of them.
